So What's the Deal??
Mood:  a-ok

Howdy all....welcome to spring time in California, not only is our weather heating up.....so is  the interest in the horses and the dogs. People are looking for the perfect partner to head out and do their equine  and K9 activities with.

My Porfessional Horse  trainer friend and I had a little discussion about that. She has the theory that people "think" there is only 1 "perfect" horse out there for them, but the reality is that there is 50 horses out there that could easily get the job done for them. It seems that people will dwell on the negative qualities that a particular horse has, and believe me they all have negative qualities as there is no perfect horse.   I think people miss out on great horses because they fail to look at the big (overall) picture that the horse is....

So are you a negative shopper or do you look at the big picture??? There's a great inventory of horses out there right now and it's certainly a buyers market, be realistic in your shopping and find yourself a great equine to get those horse goals a happening with....

Are you looking for horse resources...check out Juli Thorson's blog at http://special.equisearch.com/blog/horsetalk/ , Juli is the editor of "The Horse & Rider" magazine and chats candidly about current issues in the horse industry.

Be sure to check out  the RFD Chanel  on your TV...there's a huge block of horse TV on there featuring many great trainers like Chris Cox, Tommy Garland, Mike Kevil, and Clinton Anderson and more.

 Till Next time...

 Happy Riding

Kelly

PS...We have a great looking litter of Sable German Shepherd puppies that we are now taking reservation on.... :)

Is spring really here??
Mood:  lucky

The California poppies are blooming and the air is warming up in southern California.  Camping season will be in full swing soon and we'll be looking for a place for the horses and us to have a fun weekend at.

CLinics are happening, Clinton Anderson is at Temecula this weekend and is back in City of Industry in April.  Glenn is hoping to ride in the John Slack clinic  at WIllow Glenn in Sand Diego in May as well. Did any of you watch the Road to the Horse last weekend?? Who do you think the winner should have been??

Our local ETI, Gavilan Girls club spring series of shows starts this weekend and we're hoping for great weather for them. A good group of reiners show up to show there. It's a nice sized arena with good ground, so the reiners like :)

The morgans are gearing up to show at Del Mar the end of March, that's such an interesting place to get your horses shown at ...

A huge congrats to Russell & Tracy Spence of Lexington SC on their purchase of De Novo Independence. . Indy will head out on his cross country journey next week. We wish them many happy riding miles with this nice buckskin gelding.

Enjoy the early time change(March 9th) and spring ahead in your horse activities.

All are fun pursuits and I've already bought a new horse for 2008, she is a 2YO Bay filly by Multi Ch MLF Sharper Image and out of a Hylee Raire Flaire daughter. New tack...no new saddles yet...but there's some great bargains to be had on ebay on brand name saddles...I'm just waiting for a screaming good deal on a Bobs reining saddle...

Horse blankets....Schneiders is the only way to go...great prices and great service...There rain proof sheets are the best for our california climate.

Want to eduate yourself....I do offer riding lessons and I have a great lesson horse...please drop me an email or phone call and I'll get you booked.

If you are a reiner wannabe ...check out the Fappani clinic this sunday at San Marcos...only 45.00 to audit...check out calreining.com for more info.

Who, What & Where

Hi Folks.....

Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year.....

Big congrats to the new owners of several horses since I last posted here,

The Qh's ...Max is now with Janice & Anna Thompson Riverside CA and they are having a blast trail riding and doing lessons together. Hal & Karen Hobson purchased Lena's Sugarific and Hal is having the bes time with her. Last but not least Robert Germaine purchased the 2YO gelding Rascals Great Pine and is looking forward to many happy hours with his new horse.

The Morgans... Amos Moses is now with Kathy Wolfson in the Bay area, and from what I understand Amos has charmed everyone within  distance with his great disposition and character. De Novo Premiere is now with Kathy Adams also of the bay area, Kathy has set a huge goal of completeing the Tevis cup in a couple of years and Rojo is to be her new partner. Go Rojo! Alan & Edie Fearon picked out the good prospect De Novo Sedoso and from all accounts Dino is going to be a star in the western Pl division in 2008. The Fearons are from Edmonton AB Canada. Also on the CDN side of things Blue Moon Lightening was sold to folks in Manitoba Canada and is much loved by his new people.

We also helped our friends in the northland find and purchase a trio of new Morgans that are now home in Canada with their new owners. They are Ruben James by MLF Sharper Image, Kurrency Kode by world CH  CCR's Outrajus Corajus and finally M Bar D Miss B Haven.  The first 2 came via our good neighbors at  the Gerry Rushton Stables and the last one I found in AZ. Are you looking for a horse???Tongue out

Also a huge congrats to the buyers of litter of german Shepherd pups that we've been selling this fall. They are scattered around the LA Basin and all have found excellent homes. We still have 1 pup to find a home for yet, and I'm thinking he's gonna be a Christmas Pup for someone yet ...

News & horse buyers :)
Mood:  mischievious

It's been a while since I've posted but we've been busy but I'll try and catch you up on the goings on in our horse world....

Sold.....and gone to new home are

R Royale Galaxy Quest now lives with Mike Weinkauf  in northern Oregon. Lefty just arrived a few days ago abut has already charmed his new owners and is much appreciated by his new people.

Nu Kind Od Diamond now lives with Cynthia Stevens in Las Vegas NV. Holiday will be teamed with Cynthia in reining events in NV. This is Cynthia's first reiner and she is loving her new horse. Glenn had put just 600.00 NRHA earnings on Holiday prior to his sale.

And I also found a Morgan mare by the name of Roy Els JoieFull for Rick & Karen Shepard. Karen is greatly enjoying her new mare and is looking forward to many happy riding miles with her. Jazz is a wonderful mare and was a great find.

We have a new horse ourselves, she's Lena's Sugarific a 4 YO Sorrel Mare by the good stallion Lena's Sugarman. Lena is started in her reining manuvers but has along ways to go yet. She's very pretty, quiet and is showing trainability so we'll see how she works out for us.

We also have a couple of more young horses purchased to further devlope I'll post more about those another day.

So are you a shopper or a buyer??...what motivates you to purchase a particular horse?? Are you just starting your horse shopping quest and want to get a feel for what is out there??...Do you have money in hand and are waiting for the "perfect" horse?? Are you flexible on your horse criteria or are you absolutely set on some things??

Do you consider using an agent or a trainer a good spend of money??..would you consider paying someone to find you the perfect horse??

It's summertime.....enjoy your horses...

And if you are shopping for a new horse have a chat with me.

Topic: Confidence

So what makes one animal capable of learning what it would take another animals....(species) twice as long to learn??....Case in point....we started our 3YO Gelding "Headlite" under saddle on sunday....he did great...one his first ride he walk & trotted in the round pen..stops..turns right..turns left and backs up...very calmy and comfortably... 2nd ride he ads cantering circles in the round pen with correct leads....3rd ride he's out in the arena and  doing all 3 gaits.....4th ride he's doing his arena work and takes a stroll down the street....pretty good huh....we'd have to say he's a trainable cooperative horse....Now what about the people we train??....Do you think most people on their 4th lesson would be capable and in control enough to walk/trot/canter and head out for a little trail ride. ?? Probably not for the average person on a coopertive horse...it must take longer for the human mind to grasp being in control of the horse.....than fo the horse to grasp being obedient to the human...???...Pretty good theory maybe....I'd like to hear your comments...BTW...for all you people who are not confident or skilled in your riding....find ourself a competent instructor and take 10 lessons and see if you can find yourself becoming cpaapble of mastering the horse .....it can be done......

Horse Stuff
Mood:  chatty
Here's a few of my favorite places to visit on the web about horses, clinton Anderson.net, thehorse.com, dawnvillefarms.com, saddlehorsereport.com, rushtonstables.com...
How about Ebay for horse stuff....be sure to check out the sculptures the artist "lowen" offers....they are gorgeous and reasonably priced to and be sure to check out my collection next time you visit me...I also bought a new Clinton Anderson saddle off of ebay and I am anxiously awaiting it's arrival. The purchase price was about 250.00 less then you can get one bought at the other stores so I think I did good....
On the upside congratulations to our new friend Liz Conner on her purchase of Carlyle Unlimited. Liz is greatly enjoying Rhett's great personality and training. Rhett is one of those great geldings that is way to have around. No hassles just get on and ride....what fun. Liz is looking forward to driving Rhett as well....Liz also has a candy business and sells some great product including the best lollipops ever made...ask me about those :) Or hit me up for one next time you visit me....

PS....check the web site as I'll have a new horse posted shortly and we have some great photos of him.....
Till next time....

welcome to my blog
Mood:  happy

Welcome to my blog, please feel free to ask any questions you may have about our horses, training, or our ranch here in southern California.....

I'll give you all a little update on what our current horses are doing in their training programs.....

Holiday is working very well with Glenn and will start his campaign reining in April with 2 shows at Del Mar, one AQHA and one NRHA...we'll find out what we have when he goes to show him. His spins have improved alot and he's already a big stopper and a great circler. Glenn has worked this horse himself and does additional lessons with Gary Roberts.

I am curently riding Lefty and he is really coming along nicely. He is starting to really round his back and use his hind end correctly at all 3 gaits. He is a really smart guy and sometimes gets himself thinking to fast, but you can't be to critical on a horse that is really trying to figure it out and ends up being a bit of an over acheiver! Lefty is also adding some street miles to his resume and has been very brave and calm on his adventures.

Our 2 3YOs Amos and Headlite are being worked 3 or 4 days a week and are both coming along. Amos is well started under saddle and has been relaxed and happy about his work. He's very easy which is the way it should be. Headlite we havn't worked as much but he is now saddled and basically rady to ride. He needs a bit of time to grow up but is going to be super nice in the end.

Please post and we'll get some threads going.
